The international project of our university supported by Japan has been accepted.

Our university's International Project supported by Japan has been accepted. The project titled "Numerical, experimental and optimization analysis of a novel solar concentrating photovoltaic thermal (CPVT) system and investigation of phase change heat transfer on the working fluid for performance advancement" is being led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abid Ustaoğlu from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture, and Design of our university. Dr. Bilal Kurşuncu is a researcher and Assoc. Prof. Junnosuke Okajima from the Fluid Science Institute at Tohoku University in Japan is the responsible researcher. The project is supported by the Japan Fluid Science Global Research and Education Hub. The aim of the project is to effectively utilize renewable energy sources to address the current energy problem.

The use of fossil fuels causes greenhouse gas emissions, leading to global warming and climate change. The Paris Agreement, signed in 2015 and implemented in 2016 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, aims to limit the increase in global warming, reduce emissions as soon as possible, and balance greenhouse gas emissions by the second half of the 21st century. To achieve these goals, it is necessary to develop technologies that effectively use renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels. Therefore, the project will develop a unique solar concentrating photovoltaic thermal system design that operates with high efficiency using both thermal and electrical energy from the sun.

"In an international project, scientists from different countries are involved, including competent scientists from Bartin University and Tohoku University, aiming to increase research cooperation between Turkey and Japan. Within the scope of the project, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abid Ustaoğlu, our university's Faculty of Engineering, Architecture, and Design Department of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. Bilal Kurşuncu and Assoc. Prof. Junnosuke Okajima from Tohoku University's Institute of Fluid Science are involved. In addition, Research Assistant Hakan Büyükpatpat from the Department of Computer Engineering and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kaya and Research Assistant Dr. Volkan Akgül from the Department of Mechanical Engineering are also involved in the project. Tohoku University ranked among the top 200 universities in the world according to the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and was ranked as the best university in Japan.
As part of our university's specialization area, an international project will be carried out within the scope of 'Smart Logistics and Integrated Regional Applications' with the subheading of smart energy, aiming to reduce energy dependence and use energy more efficiently. Within the project, low-cost high-performance solar energy systems will be obtained by applying various optimization methods in the design of the concentrator photovoltaic thermal system, and the optimum operating conditions of the system will be determined.

Highlighting their aim to contribute to the scientific world and the future of our country with their work, our university's Rector, Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, thanked Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abid Ustaoğlu and Prof. Dr. Bilal Kurşuncu and Assoc. Prof. Junnosuke Okajima for their achievements.
