The training program supported by the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA), aiming to enhance individuals’ competencies in the field of artificial intelligence, has been successfully completed. Organized in cooperation with Bartın University Lifelong Learning Application and Research Center (BÜNSEM) and BAKKA, the program consisted of a comprehensive training process covering the fundamental concepts, application areas, and implementation stages of artificial intelligence. The closing ceremony of the "Artificial Intelligence Applications Training," held within the scope of the “Digital Technologies Skills Development Initiative,” took place at Bartın University (BARÜ).
“Our participants put their learning into practice”
In his opening remarks, BÜNSEM Director Assoc. Prof. Hüseyin Kaygın stated, “Participants not only gained knowledge; they imagined, designed, and produced. I believe that the knowledge and skills they acquired in this training will form the foundation for future studies that will contribute to our country’s development.”
“We aim to make our youth producers of digital transformation”
BAKKA Secretary General Mehmet Çetinkaya emphasized the importance of the program, saying, “Our goal was to transform the youth of our region from mere observers into active producers of digital transformation. We offered both theoretical and practical training in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and data analytics. Under the guidance of our academics, young participants formed teams and developed AI-based solutions to real-world problems. This program is also a component of our regional innovation ecosystem. We believe that the participants will achieve success in national and international competitions and will initiate new entrepreneurial projects in the near future.”
Rector Akkaya: “We prioritize smart systems, software, and AI studies”
BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya highlighted the importance of effective language use in interacting with artificial intelligence: “As a university, we act with the awareness that artificial intelligence is a transformative force across all areas of life. Our specialization field, ‘Smart Logistics and Integrated Regional Applications,’ encompasses a wide range of topics from smart systems to robotics coding and software. While working with AI, we must remember that commands must be clear and accurate, and we should use our Turkish language effectively and correctly. I believe that this training program will provide significant contributions to the development of Bartın and our region.”
Governor Arslan: “Bartın is progressing toward becoming a technology-producing city”
Bartın Governor Dr. Nurtaç Arslan also remarked, “Artificial intelligence is not only an engineering or software topic; it is a comprehensive field of transformation that must be addressed with an ethical, sustainable, and human-centered development perspective. The work of Bartın University and BAKKA in this direction offers tremendous opportunities for our youth. Within the program, students gained knowledge and skills in key areas of AI and developed project ideas through teamwork. These outcomes show that Bartın is not only a city of industry, nature, and culture but is also confidently advancing toward becoming a technology-producing city.”
The program concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants who successfully completed the training delivered by Assoc. Prof. Evrim Güler and Dr. Ümit Demirbaga from the BARÜ Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design.
